Visa Debit Transactions on Non-Visa Networks

Your Visa® Check Card allows you to conduct transactions on the PULSE and CO-OP debit networks, which will generally require you to enter your Personal Identification Number (PIN).  Please be aware that these are not considered Visa debit transactions. The provisions of your cardholder agreement with us that specifically relate to Visa transactions do not apply to non-Visa debit transactions. Non-Visa processed transactions are not subject to chargeback rights or zero liability.

Some merchants are authorized to accept non-Visa debit transactions without requiring you to enter your PIN.  If you choose to sign to authorize a debit transaction, the transaction will be routed as a Visa transaction; this is what we call a "signature-based transaction."

In performing transactions, you may prefer to initiate a signature-based Visa transaction instead of a PIN-less debit.  Examples of transactions that could be processed either way may include but are not limited to: insurance premiums, utility payments, health care charges, and/or Internet based transactions. However, if you are enrolled in your Credit Union's Community Rewards Program, a non-Visa debit transaction will not qualify for cash rewards.

Remember that our Community Rewards Program earns you cash rewards only if a purchase with your Visa Check Card is processed as a signature-based transaction.  Whenever you are asked "debit or credit?," say "credit" and sign for your purchase. That way you are also covered by Visa's Zero Liability Policy if your debit card is lost or stolen and used fraudulently.

If you have any questions, please email us or call our Anywhere Advisors at 889-7755 (800-347-2838 from outside the Albuquerque area).
